Year 3
It’s been a productive week in Year 3, with the children stepping up to the expectations and responsibilities of key stage 2. They successfully logged into Spelling Shed to practise this week’s spellings (and can do this at home, too – www.spellingshed.com) and accessed their new personal folders on the school network, copying and pasting their files across independently!
Just a quick reminder that our first spelling test is next Tuesday and handwriting homework is due in on Monday. Any fruit and vegetable packaging, with labels, should be brought in on Monday, too, please.
Today, the children are bringing home their maths targets sheets. They are stuck in the back of reading records. This way, they are easy to access at home and for us to check in school. Please tick and date when you think your child has achieved a target. We will check it in school. We recommend practising little and often.
In English this week, the children wrote instructions to make a bowl of cereal, using imperative verbs and time conjunctions. We read from George’s Marvellous Medicine as a whole class and answered questions on the text. In Maths, they represented and partitioned numbers up to 100, then 1,000. In art, they explored mark making in pencil. In science, they used a Venn diagram classified animals according to their diet. In RE they continued to explore reconciliation in Christianity and, in French, we began short conversations using greetings and asking how someone is. Miss Spinks lead PSHE on the topic of harmful and helpful drugs.
Have a lovely weekend!

Year 4
We have been super busy in our learning this week; In English we have been busy looking at and digesting our text about Grendel from the story Beowulf.
Place value and numbers up to 10,000 have been our focus this week in Maths with Mrs Chittock, and they have continued with measurement with Mrs Harper.
In Science, the children were categorising animals and reasoning on their choices with Mrs Harper. In computing, the children were continuing with Probots and were looking at repeating loops.
Our History topic of Anglo-Saxons started this week with a recap of what life was like with the Romans before the Anglo-Saxons came. PHSE with Miss Spinks continued with the children looking at what laws they knew and why we have them.
In Music, we started looking at 'Rock and Roll' (possibly not a genre they are familiar with!) and in Art we were looking at Anglo-Saxon art and the children were creating their own Anglo-Saxon designs using lots of detail.
Unfortunately, we did not manage to be the first with Bookster Bear for being the class with the most Star readers. Maybe we can claim him in the coming week. Please read with your child so we can achieve this. Don't forget your Maths Targets please, these are important skills as well as practicing your times tables. Spellings and further homework will be coming soon.
Have a lovely weekend

Year 5
We had such a brilliant day on Tuesday. It was great to see the children support each other doing new and challenging things. I was amazed at how many of my group were very keen to jump off a 10m platform! Canoeing was brilliant fun too. Keep your eyes peeled for some of the photos to appear on the website (we took rather a lot!)
This week, we have continued to learn about place value, extending down to the decimals. We have had so many children pass levels of Times Table Mountain as we get back into the swing of it. In English, we have analysed sentences from our biography of Neil Armstrong, read about the miracle of Apollo 13 and did an exceptionally long spelling test! This was recapping lots of the words they would have learnt in Y3/4 to see what we need to recap before tackling the Y5/6 list!
This week, children were offered the opportunity to apply for the role of School Councillor or Junior Road Safety Officer. Forms need to be back in school on Monday. The class will elect our School Councillors and the Y5 team will choose the new JRSOs.
I was really impressed with last week's homework - everyone's came in on time! Long may it continue. You will see that there is a note about spellings in your child's reading record book. Following a monster spelling test this week, children have all been set weekly assignments on EdShed. Log ins can be found at the back of the reading record book.
Have a good weekend. See you on Monday!
Miss Rutter, Mrs Marsh and Mrs Nichols
Year 6
It's been another busy week in Year 6. It is quite hard to believe that we are having discussions about secondary school already. Please note that County High has released its open day times.
The children have really got into the swing of being year 6, rising to the challenge and completing homework. Thank you for your support with this.
The homework this week is focusing on an aspect of our learning from the last two weeks. There is an expectation that the children spend one hour (without distractions) on the task. Please stop your child after one hour. If there is an area of the homework your child has found tricky, please ask them to see me on Monday at lunchtime as this is my dedicated time to help with this. Children are expected to have started this at home.
In English this week, we have been continuing to read Private Peaceful, learning to write expanded noun phrases, writing a cold task diary entry and spelling.
In English, we have continued to learn about the outbreak of WW1 and the impact of propaganda in the government's recruitment drive.
In maths, we have been rounding numbers to 10,000,000 and learning to interpret negative numbers.
In RE, we have been learning about what incarnation means to Christians.
In PSHE, we have been learning about the UN Convention on the rights of the child - this prompted some interesting discussion.
This is just a snippet of what your child has achieved - there has been lots to celebrate.
Well done to Emily and Katie-Mae for being our certificate winners; Jude for earning a HT award.
Have a super weekend!
