Year 3
Another wonderful week of learning and behaviour – well done year 3! Please remember to pack a hat for the sun each day, give antihistamine and apply sun cream as required.
The children have impressed us with their understanding of time, focussing on duration, seconds, minutes and hours and units of time. In English, they created some fantastical mythological creatures and completed whole class reading on a healthy balanced diets. Computing saw them programming on animation files; Art, designing Ancient Greek vases; RE, discovering how Nanak became a Guru; and, in French, using the terms ‘C’est qui?’ and ‘aussi’. Miss Rutter made a popular visit and they tested materials for their reflective qualities in Science. We finished the week with a really engaging and interesting discussion about Hippocrates, who he was and why he is know as the ‘father of medicine.’ Well done year 3 - you deserve a cool treat in the sunshine. Have a great weekend! The Year 3 team.
Year 4
This week we have been exploring statistics in a range of ways. In topic, we even looked at data relating to Titanic and some of us created bar graphs. In science, we conducted a chocolate melting experiment. Everything didn’t go quite to plan yet this taught us lots of skills for what we would do next time. Playscripts was our focus in English and we did enjoy reading, acting and writing parts of playscripts in groups. Other than that, we’ve looked for patterns on Scratch games, learnt about cooperation in PSHE and, continued our Covenant learning in R.E. talking about Pesach.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
Year 5
It's been so lovely to have better weather this week. Thank you for sending your children in with hats and wearing sunscreen.
This week in English, the children have been imitating a formal letter of complaint. They were writing about faulty bikes/scooters, really focusing on keeping a formal tone and sticking to the three-part letter structure. I'm sure Mr Coldwell looks forward to reading them. In Maths, we have continued our focus on angles, looking at recognising acute, obtuse, right and reflex angles in shapes and calculating angles on a straight line.
In History, we learnt about some of the diseases that the Victorians suffered from. I played the poor, diseased Victorian and Y5 played the doctor trying to diagnose me! They gave me lots of great, Victorian medical advice, but it didn't improve my chances. A scarf wouldn't help anyone recover from Typhoid!
Next Monday, we will have a PE session with Adam, the Karate coach who has been running our after-school club. Children need to come to school in their PE kit for the day.
Keep remembering those hats, water bottles and sunscreen!
Have a lovely weekend!
Miss Rutter, Mrs Marsh and Mr Coldwell
Year 6
There's been an international flavour to our maths lessons this week: we have been learning Chinese, Egyptian, Russian and Japanese methods of multiplication.
In English, we have continued to read Chinese Cinderella - the children have been gripped by this story.
We have been rehearsing -LOTS!
In RE, we have been learning about The Eightfold Path in Buddhism.
In art, the children have been learning about street art.
Next Monday, we are welcoming staff from Newmarket Academy to meet with me, and they will also meet with the children who are going to be attending from September. If your child is due to go to Newmarket Academy , I have suggested that they spend some time thinking of questions they might have which they would like to ask.
Have a super weekend.
