Year 3
Another wonderful week in year 3. Play rehearsals are coming along nicely – please continue to encourage your child to practise. We have spoken with the whole class about learning behaviour, particularly talking when an adult is talking to the class, as they have been quite ‘chatty’ at times. They have listened and shown improvement throughout the week.
Our learning this week has included: learning a text map for the character ‘Harby,’ a reading comprehension about garden birds and grammar focusing on nouns, adjectives and verbs; finishing our first fractions topic, by comparing fractions and finding equivalent fractions; planning an investigation into whether seeds need soil to grow; writing sentences with an adjective in French; using grid reference on OS maps in geography; discussing our communities in PSHE; and exploring reincarnation in RE.
Next Friday is Red Nose Day. Children can wear anything that makes them smile and/or red clothing. They are asked to all bring in one joke to share with the class – we plan to put them into class joke books! The children have brought home a piece of paper to write their joke on in clear, neat handwriting and bring back to school.
Bon weekend!
Year 4
This week we’ve looked at fractions again and noticed equivalents. Our Invent texts have been celebrated in English before moving on to a persuasive text about Newmarket. In Science, we continued with sound and our World Book Day quiz was highly competitive!
Of course, the play rehearsals are in full swing now. Your child should have their lines for home and be aiming to have them completely learnt within the next week. Google Classroom also has all of the song lyrics and tracks uploaded, so you can practise those at home. Costume slips will also be going home in reading records at the end of the day.
Finally, residential trip information will be coming out shortly regarding kit lists and drop off and pick up times. I am so excited about our visit to the Jarman Centre.
Any questions, please feel free to get in touch, but information will be coming out soon.
Thanks for all the hard work and consistency with Times Tables Rockstars too. We have seen a real shift in pupil’s levels of confidence and accuracy.
Have a great weekend.
Year 5
This week in maths, we have continued our fraction learning. We have been using mar models to help us calculate fractions of amounts. On Wednesday, we had a go at tricky problem-solving involving fractions and measures. In English, we have read about a mythical creature from Ancient Egypt, the Sphinx. We have planned our own non-chron about the Sphinx and will write it next week. In computing, we continued to develop our maze games. We all now have moving sprites! Next week, we will try to create enemy characters to make our games even trickier!
Thank you to those families who have already managed to send in a cereal box for our Egyptian Death Mask project. If you haven’t yet sent one in, you still have time. We will probably make the masks in the last week of this half-term.
Our current class book is ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’. It has been turned into a play which is on at Cambridge Arts Theatre between the 12th and 16th March! Here’s the link if you’d like more info https://www.cambridgeartstheatre.com/whats-on/boy-back-class
Next Friday is Red Nose Day. It will be a non-uniform day with the theme of Red or things that make them smile. Donations can be made on the Just Giving page – see the details further down, in this newsletter.
Have a super weekend !!

Year 6
It's been another productive week in Y6.
In English, we have been reading some key scenes from Macbeth and have explored the theme of the witches manipulating Macbeth and Lady Macbeth bullying Macbeth. We have been practising using the Answer it, Prove it, Explain it structure for responding to questions posed about a text.
In maths, we have continued with our revision programme, this week focusing on multiplication and converting between miles and km. Mrs Offley has been teaching the pupils how to convert between different units of measure. (This is just another plea for your child to continue to practise their times tables if their recall is not completely accurate and not rapid).
In history, we have been learning about Henry VIII's motivation(s) for breaking with Rome and learning about some of the differences between the Catholic and Anglican denominations.
I would like to say a huge well done and thanks to our pupil librarians - they did an amazing job of writing and hosting the WBD quiz as well as sensitively choosing the winners of the competition.
Home learning this week is a range of revision questions; we have also sent home some revision 'crib' sheets.
Have a super weekend.
