Year 3
As we approach the festive break, today the Year 3 team took a moment to reflect on the incredible progress your children have made during this autumn term. Having entered key stage 2, It has been truly wonderful to see their growth, curiosity, and determination in the classroom each day.
They have embraced new challenges (such as new methods for the four maths operations and incorporating a greater number of features in longer pieces of writing), and to celebrate their achievements, both in and outside school.
Your support and encouragement have been invaluable in helping them make notable progress in reading, times tables and maths targets in particular. Thank you for being such an integral part of their learning journey – and an extra shout out to the adults who helped us through this week’s challenging, yet ultimately successful, reading café activity!
This week, our learning included writing a free verse poem about a magic Stone Age box, planning and conducting a science investigation into different soil types and their permeabilities, reviewing this term’s learning about the Stone Age (this has proved a very popular topic), a fun PE lesson, several Christmas-themed learning, music, arts and crafts activities.
As Christmas draws near, we wish you and your families health, peace and joy. May it be a time of rest, connection and peace. We really look forward to welcoming your children back in the new year.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Warmest regards,
The Year 3 team
Year 4
Firstly, may the whole Year 4 team thank you for your lovely gifts and cards. You have made us feel very special. We enjoy teaching your children and do not expect anything but we are very grateful and appreciate your generosity.
We have had a great week, some fun and some learning all mixed together??
Our learning this week;-
English - We finished writing the innovate for our text we have been learning.
Maths - We continued with Multiplication and Division and looking at the perimeter of shapes.
DT - We finished our book covers and don't they look great. Thank you to those who were able to come in and help.
Computing - The children continued to use sketch up and were adding more detail to their Anglo-Saxon houses.
Christmas craft - Lots of!
Lovely to see so many of you at the Reading Cafe.
I know it is a time for family and fun, but . . . please read with your child, or encourage your child to read. Reads over holidays are also counted towards Star Reader when we return.
Don't let times tables slip either!
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, enjoy time with friends and family and in there somewhere, find time to just 'be', relax and rest.
Mrs Harper is looking forward to seeing all the children on Wednesday 8th January 2025, and I will see them on Thursday.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Mrs Chittock, Mrs Harper and the year 4 team
Year 5
It was lovely to see so many of you at our Christmas reading café on Wednesday - even if I did tell us all the wrong instructions! Thank goodness for Mrs Marsh and Mrs Nichols who came to the rescue (as usual!)
We have had lots of finishing off this week. We've done lots and lots of History. We've covered how William actually became King (winning the battle wasn't enough), how he secured his throne using castles, the Domesday book and the feudal system and then how he dealt with rebellion and revolt. We spent our English lessons this week writing an argument about whether William was the rightful winner of the Battle of Hastings. Children could pick whether they thought he was or not. It was so enjoyable reading their thoughts - they have got such a good understanding of all the ins and outs of this period!
In Maths, we've looked at factors, common factors and prime numbers. We're all trying to learn the prime numbers under 20 because it's a fun and useful fact to know. In RE, we finished our learning about Tawhid and how it helps create a sense of community for Muslims. The children had a go at drawing a geometric pattern like they might see in a mosque.
As a school, we didn't have time to squeeze in a Celebration assembly this week, so we celebrated in class. We haven't stopped working (really, we could have done with an extra week) so there is still lots to celebrate! Congratulations to our certificate winners this week: Charlie G (WOTW), Amelie-Rose and Grace.
A huge thank you to those families who sent in Christmas cards and gifts for us. It is very kind of you to think of us at this very busy time of year.
Have a wonderful Christmas break. We look forward to seeing you back at school on Wednesday 8th January.
Miss Rutter, Mrs Marsh and Mrs Nichols
Year 6
It's been a lovely final week of term. It is almost impossible to believe that we are 1/3 of the way through the year.
In English, we have completed some assessments, and we have been writing poetry inspired by Pie Corbett's City Jungle. These were based on an image of the Blitz as a stimulus.
In maths, we have completed more assessments, and we have been delighted with the progress the children have made.
In history, we have been looking at the reasons for which the Battle of Britain was a turning point in the war. We then categorised the sources into written and pictorial and then looked at whether or not the sources were describing people, weapons and tactics and technology.
Today, we have had lots of Christmas fun: it was a truly special moment watching the children squealing with laughter when playing games.
We thank you for your good wishes, cards and gifts - it is truly appreciated.
We hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and we send our very best wishes for 2025.
